A Cultural Escape
Tucked in the foothills of the fertile Apennine hills, the ancient city of Faenza is a delightful trip in the province of Ravenna. It perfectly complements a trip to Florence or Bologna by providing a calm yet richly cultural escape, away from the tourist crowds.
Faenza is a town and commune situated between the hills around Bologna and the sea near Rimini. Its name has become synonymous with Maiolica, or Faience, a particular type of decorative tin-glazed pottery painted with detailed depictions of mythical stories or animal and plant life.
Enjoy Countryside & Ceramics, Food & Wine
This 2 day trip is perfectly combined for an engaging and balanced excursion – from historical town visits to the oldest piazza and renowned ceramic museum, to locally sourced home cooked food and a wine tasting in a winery in the Emilia Romagna countryside.
Although set over a weekend, this experience can be arranged for any two days of your choice. Since an overnight stay with breakfast in a beautiful hotel is included in the package, you don’t have to worry about where to stay!
For those who like to get hands-on, optional extras include a cooking class and ceramics workshops. Additionally, private transfers from Florence or Pisa can be arranged.
The Perfect Break between Bologna & Florence
The trip commences and ends in Faenza allowing you to fit it into your travels as you prefer. We recommend taking the train to Faenza from Florence Santa Maria Novella, which transports you through the stunning Mugello hills, past streams and waterfalls and offering beautiful views that can’t be found elsewhere.
With a visit to a countryside vineyard on the second day you’ll get the chance to enjoy the scenery and the land’s beautiful wine in a wine tasting.
As a private experience, we can cater to your needs and customize the tour according to your preferences. A car and driver, to travel around Faenza and the neighbouring countryside to the winery is included.
