Tastes of Venice – ‘Bacari’ Food & Wine Tour with a Traditional Traghetto Crossing of the Grand Canal

A Taste of True Venetian Culture

Step away from the tourist traps and enjoy a culinary experience rooted in centuries of Venetian tradition. With your private guide, explore the city’s bacari—authentic wine bars beloved by locals—for an unforgettable tasting of cicchetti (Venetian-style tapas) and regional wines.

Explore Venice’s Oldest Food Markets

Begin your tour at the Rialto markets, once the trading heart of Venice, where spices and exotic goods flowed in from the East. Wander among stalls piled with vibrant produce, fresh seafood, and the local flavors that have inspired Venetian cuisine for generations.

Savor the Flavors of Venice

Taste crispy fried zucchini flowers, tender octopus, melt-in-your-mouth meatballs, and other Venetian delicacies. Pair each dish with wines handpicked by your guide—many of them native to the Veneto region. If you wish, we can provide a Venetian sommelier to enhance your tasting journey.

Cross the Grand Canal Like a Local

Hop aboard a traditional traghetto, Venice’s standing gondola ferry, to cross the Grand Canal and reach the charming neighborhood of Cannaregio. Here, away from the crowds, you’ll experience the real rhythm of local life.

Discover the Stories Behind Every Sip

As you walk from one bacaro to another, your guide will share stories of Venice’s maritime spice trade, the origin of its ingredients, and the social rituals of wine and food that define the Venetian lifestyle.
